Picaboo offers almost 300 different page layouts, from text-only or 1-photo-per-page to “blanket-spread” that can accommodate 20 or so pictures on a single page. MyPublisher is currently on version 3.1 of the software, Picaboo is at 2.0, Blurb’s BookSmart application is at 1.9.9. The key similarity between the three is that they provide a desktop software for creating your book, which is uploaded in its finished form for professional printing. These services were my primary targets because photo-book production is their specialization, unlike photo-sharing and -printing online services that may offer photo-books as additional products. The article has been updated to include that in the comparison. : I also now played for a couple of hours with another similar service that only recently came to my attention, Blurb. For those interested, the first-time user comparison follows. Having finished with Travelog, I spent some free time in the last couple of days test-driving two services for photo-book-making that I first mentioned in this article: MyPublisher and Picaboo. That paper is not available in the smaller 8x8 size, though, so if this paper blows me away, I'll reserve it for my big vacation trip photo books, and stick with either Shutterfly or Photobook America for the 8x8 Year in Review type books (still trying to decide which one is better for my needs). If you are here because you’re looking for comparisons of various photo-books software – and why else would you be on this page, anyway? – I also invite you to also read my most recent follow-up at this link I just placed an order last night for another AdoramaPix book using the 25% off code (Also mentioned here), but with the Fuji Deep Matte photo paper, to see if that's something I'd like more than the default Lustre paper. Overall, I liked this one, but I'd never use it again without image wrap cover, spine printing, full bleed (on the size), or customizable layouts. The colours printed very true to my expectations, though the print quality itself is a bit low-res looking on some pics. Glad I did - the book turned out really nice, actually. I pre-purchased a voucher on Cyber Monday, and halfway through the process, I was looking up to see if I could get a refund on the voucher, but I persevered. I printed my wedding pics into this book, since I figured a linen cover would be appropriate. No full bleed images on this Medium size. No image wrap cover (linen only, with a print mounted on the front), no printing on the spine. Some pages lay flatter than others depending where they are in the book. Milk Books Paper in Medium size: this size is "center stitched", not layflat.I won't be ordering from them again though, since their software was not robust enough for me and their constant sales-focused pricing is a turnoff. The pages are not as glossy as I thought they would be (neither a pro nor a con for me), but kind of interesting. However, I found the print quality to be very poor. I tried this book because of this glowing review which said the super gloss paper blew AdoramaPix out of the water ( ). MyPublisher "Super Gloss" lay flat: these pages are flex-hinge, not seamless (like the majority of books I ordered).Following up on my post, since I came home yesterday from the holidays and got to take a look at my MyPublisher "Super Gloss"-upgraded book and I had a closer look at my Milk Books photo book over the holidays as well.
